The Waterfront Playhouse will conclude their smash 70th Platinum season with the tap dancing comedy, "Stepping Out" by Richard Harris. Directed by Cameron Murray, "Stepping Out" features a cast of some of Key West's best comedic actors. The show opens on May 6 and runs until May 29th (Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays) with a curtain time of 8:30 pm. The production sponsor is WKWM, 91.5 FM with the Platinum season sponsors of El Meson de Pepe, Comcast and Digital Island Media. Opening night will include a catered post performance party held in the sculpture garden in front of the theater.

"Stepping Out" is a delightfully funny play about the lives, laughs and loves of a group of women (and one man) attending a weekly tap class in a church hall in Buffalo, NY. Led by an ex-professional dancer, the class members attempt to overcome an abundance of left feet in learning how to dance. During the classes, the personalities of the dancers are revealed in hilarious and touching detail. When the class is eventually asked to take part in a charity event, the pressure mounts. Tears, tantrums and nerves abound as they struggle to transform into triumphant tappers. WABC, New York promises, "You'll stand up and cheer!"

Director Cameron Murray directed last season's smash hit "The Musical of Musicals, the Musical" at the WFPH, where he has also directed "Forever Plaid," "The Female Odd Couple," "Me and Jezebel" as well as "Stepping Out" 15 years ago. He is the drama instructor at Key West High School and has directed many Keys Kids shows.

The superb cast includes David Black (as the lone male, Geoffrey), Laurie Breakwell (as the sharp and shrewd Maxine), Josephine Pizzino (as the sassy and bubbly Rose), Carolyn Cooper (as the shy do-gooder Andy), Rebecca Gleason (as the caustically cheerful Sylvia), Maggie Meier (as the experienced young dancer Lynne), Marjorie Paul Shook (as the tart and bossy Vera), Melissa Penrose (as the curmudgeonly piano player Mrs. Fraser), Kyla Piscopink (as the ex-chorine teacher Mavis) and Caroline Taylor (as the wacky bicycle enthusiast Dorothy).

Michael Boyer will design the set, Carmen Rodriguez is doing costumes and props, with assistance from Ruth Cahoon, David Bird will be designing the lighting and Trish Manley acts as stage manager.

"Stepping Out" began as a hit play in London's West End and eventually appeared on Broadway under the direction of Tommy Tune. In London, it was voted the Best Comedy of the Year by the Evening Standard Drama Awards. The play was also turned into a movie starring Liza Minelli as Mavis, and there was a musical version, which had a successful run in the West End.
