The highly acclaimed production of “The Trip To Bountiful,” now playing at the Waterfront Playhouse, will take its final bow on Saturday, February 11th. Horton Foote’s American masterpiece has received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. KONK Life calls the production “excellent” and “a classic that still fascinates audiences, even after 60 years.” The production has also earned numerous 5 star reviews on the Waterfront Facebook page.

“The Trip to Bountiful” is the tale of Carrie Watts, an elderly widow, who shares a cramped Houston apartment with her fretful son, Ludie and his domineering wife, Jessie Mae.  In this suffocating atmosphere, Carrie yearns to return to her childhood home of Bountiful, Texas. But Ludie and Jessie Mae won’t hear of it. Then one day, Carrie manages to elude their watchful eyes, and escapes. Audiences are taken on a journey that is compelling, humorous, touching and ultimately life-affirming in “The Trip To Bountiful.”

Joanna Brady of KONK Life says, “As always, Murphy Davis’s direction is superb. We have seen Murphy Davis cast his magic over several plays in recent years with great results. This one is no exception.”

The cast of “Bountiful” has also received rave reviews, especially Joy Hawkins in the pivotal role of Carrie Watts. John Reynolds and Caroline Taylor expertly portray Carrie’s son and daughter-in-law, as does Jessica Miano Kruel as a stranger Carrie meets on her travels. Rounding out the cast are John Wells, Don Bearden, Wayne Dapser and Rena Rahlgren. Social media comments continually call the cast “brilliant.”

Renowned playwright Horton Foote is a recipient of the Pulitzer Prize, and he won Academy Awards for his adaptions of “To Kill a Mockingbird” and “Tender Mercies.”He also won the Drama Desk Lifetime Achievement Award and was elected to the Theatre Hall of Fame in 1996. In 2000, he was given the National Medal of Arts Award.

Michael Boyer beautifully renders the Texas locations in Carrie’s journey. Leigh Hooten creates the period costumes with an expert eye for detail. Lighting designer John Jaworski effectively captures the light of East Texas. Carmen Rodriguez is the props mistress and Alicia Merel acts as stage manager.

The production is sponsored by KONK Life, with season sponsors: Digital Island Media, Wodu Media and Royal Furniture.
