What better way to spend a hot Key West evening in May than with the cool sounds of “Forever Plaid” at the Waterfront Playhouse? Now playing until May 27th, this deliciously tuneful evening will have you tapping your toes and humming along to popular hits from the 1950s/early 60s. The New York Post called the show, “Screamingly funny! Entirely enchanting, utterly entertaining, awesome! … will put a smile on your face!”

“Forever Plaid” is a hallmark jukebox musical that centers on a quartet of high-school chums in 1964 whose dream of recording an album is ended by a bus collision on the way to their first big concert. Ironically, the bus was filled with Catholic school girls on their way to see the Beatles first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show. The entire bus inhabitants escape unharmed. However, our four young angels are miraculously revived for a posthumous chance at musical glory, performing the show that never was and getting a final shot at fulfilling their dreams.

With glorious goofiness the “Plaids” sing in the closest of harmony, squabble over the smallest intonations and execute their charming choreography with over-zealous precision. Their repertoire consists of such hits as “Three Coins in the Fountain,” “Catch a Falling Star,” “Chain Gang,” “Cry,” “Heart and Soul,” “Rags to Riches,” “Love is a Many-Splendored Thing” and many more. “Letter-perfect! Sweet, funny and thoroughly amusing,” raved the New York Times.

Written by Stuart Ross and directed by Cameron Murray, “Forever Plaid” boasts four incredible vocalists: Marc Crow (Sparky), Matthew Kennedy (Jinx), J. B. McLendon (Smudge) and Jeremy Zoma (Frankie). The show is 90 minutes of musical magic. Your heart will melt like a sixteen year prom queen when you hear their perfect harmonies and gorgeous solos.

Michael Fauss is the musical director and is on keyboards and Gary Rivenson is on bass.

Michael Boyer creates the airport hanger which provides the concert setting for the Plaids, returning for their heavenly performance. John Jaworski is the lighting designer, Leigh Hooten is in charge of costume design, Ben Pegg is the sound designer and J. B. McLendon is the props master, with Trish Manley acting as stage manager.
