The Waterfront Playhouse will be holding auditions for “Deathtrap” a comic thriller on Sunday, October 14, 3 to 6 pm at the Waterfront Playhouse. Production dates for the show are scheduled for April 30 to May 18, 2013 with rehearsals starting in late March.

The play will be directed by Bob Bowersox. He’ll be looking for 3 men and 2 women who possess keen physical and verbal skills. The character breakdown and more information are available at www.waterfrontplayhouse.org.

Auditions will consist of reading a brief scene, but everyone will have time to familiarize themselves with the scene. ALL roles are open. ALL roles are paid. Callbacks TBD.

Written by Ira Levin, “Deathtrap” is about Sidney Bruhl, a renowned playwright who is in a writer’s slump. Clifford Anderson, a student of one of Sidney’s writing seminars, has recently sent his mentor a copy of his first attempt at playwrighting for Sidney’s review and advice. It’s so good that Sidney says, “A gifted director couldn’t even hurt it.” Once Clifford arrives at the Bruhl home, it’s clear that things are not what they seem. What lengths will Sidney go to in order to once again be the toast of Broadway? Will Sidney’s wife, Myra, help in his scheme? Even Helga Ten Dorp, a nosey psychic from next door, and Porter Milgram, Sidney’s observant attorney, can only speculate where the line between truth and deception lies.

Deathtrap is essentially a play within a play. It began its Broadway run in 1978 at the Music Box Theater and holds the record for the longest running comedy-thriller on Broadway and was also nominated for the Tony Award for Best Play. The play was later adapted into a film starring Christopher Reeve and Michael Caine.
