Waterfront Playhouse to produce a one-night-only staged reading of the seldom produced “Ten Blocks on the Camino Real” by Tennessee Williams on March 17th.
Key West, February 29. The Waterfront Playhouse, as part of its On The Edge series, will be producing a staged reading of “Ten Blocks on the Camino Real” by Tennessee Williams. The production will be directed by incoming Artistic Director Patrick New and feature Chicago actress Kathy Logelin and Key West artists Brandon Beach, Bob Bowersox, Iain Wilcox, Belle Jampol, John McDonald, and Lauren Thompson, among others. The reading will also feature live musical accompaniment from spanish classical guitar player Mateo Jampol.
“Ten Blocks on the Camino Real” is a largely neglected play in Tennessee Williams’s canon, generally regarded as an earlier version of the full length play “Camino Real”. It was first written in 1946 as Williams travelled through Mexico and was later workshopped by Elia Kazan at the Actors’s Studio.
It is one of Tennessee Williams’ most experimental works and heavily influenced by the artistic freedom of William Saroyan, who Williams admired deeply. The play is ideal for a staged reading as audiences will hear Williams’ prosaic and detailed stage directions that would otherwise only be seen by the director, designers, and actors.
This one-night-only production will be performed on March 17, 2024 at 8:00pm at the Waterfront Playhouse. Tickets are available at www.waterfrontplayhouse.org or the box office at (305) 294-5015.
