The Waterfront Playhouse Youth Theater begins classes

John McDonald

Actor/Director John McDonald will begin teaching classes for the Waterfront Youth Theatre, which was created this past summer with an inaugural production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Registration and classes will begin on Saturday September 29 from 9:00 – 10:30. The cost is $100 per month, with an “Informance” for parents and friends on the final day October 27.

“I have been fortunate to have seen several productions featuring teens and pre-teens,” said McDonald.  “For ages 10 – 20, this class will focus on personal technique and how to approach a role or monologue for performance or competition. A personal work technique is vital in creating a character for the theater.”

McDonald, whose credits include: Broadway: New York Shakespeare Festival; Off-Broadway and Regional Theatre: The Long Wharf Theatre, The Huntington Performing Arts Center and the Front Street Theatre. He created the Roxy Regional School of the Arts, as well as a 6 week theatre camp which allowed young performers to participate regardless of economic background. He has performed for the Waterfront Playhouse, Theatre XP, WLRN Radio as well as The Studios of Key West.
