Darrin Hagen

Director/Writer

Darrin Hagen is the artistic director of Guys In Disguise, Canada’s experts in cross-dressing comedies, as well as an award-winning playwright, composer, actor, and Canada’s most notorious Drag Artiste.  He is the author of The Edmonton Queen: The Final Voyage, which won a Sterling Award for Outstanding New Work, and was adapted into a best-selling book (published by Brindle & Glass Publishing).  He has written 15 plays with titles like Tornado Magnet: A Salute to Trailer Court Women (also published by Brindle & Glass); The Neo-Nancies: Hitler’s Kickline; 2 Queens & A Joker; The Glory, The Fury; Witch-Hunt at the Strand and PileDriver!. His newest play, Buddy, has its world premiere in Canada in May.  He would like to thank the original cast of the Canadian production of BitchSlap! –  Trevor Schmidt, Davina Stewart, “Twiggy”, Gina & Gina, and his partner/producer Kevin Hendricks  – for all their hard work and talent in making this play a reality.  Hagen has received five Sterling Awards for his work in Edmonton theater, as well as being named one of Edmonton’s “Edmontonians of the Century” for his city’s centennial.  His name came alphabetically after Wayne Gretzky’s.  To the best of his knowledge, he’s the only drag queen on that list.
